Today began the final 4 days of the campaign for Yes on One, the campaign that's working to gain the freedom to marry for same-sex couples in Maine. The ACLU of Maine has been all in for this effort because we believe everyone deserves equal protection under the law.

At a training this morning, my new friend, Coalition Director Ali Vander Zanden asked us to envision the best wedding we had ever attended. That was easy for me, it was my older sister's wedding. I was her maid of honor and proudly stood up for her to support her in marrying the love of her life and her best friend. I gave a toast, we danced and celebrated in the town were we all went to college. It was perfect.

My sister, Tina, passed away the week I began my job at the ACLU of Maine. She was so proud of my decision to join this incredible organization and dedicate myself full time to helping gain marriage for loving and committed same-sex couples in Maine. I am thankful she knew I was going to work so hard on an issue I care so deeply about.

Tina wanted nothing more than to attend my wedding to my partner some day. Though she is no longer with us, I believe she is watching as we inch closer to election day. There is not a doubt in my mind that if she were still living, she'd be here this weekend with me, working to make sure I gain the freedom to marry the person I love.

My sister and her desire for fairness still inspire me. Her unwavering support for me as I came out, began to date and eventually met the person I am supposed to marry made it possible for me to be the person I am today.

I can't give up now. That's why I'm spending all of my time between now and election day making sure people get out and vote.

We are so close. There are just three more days until election day. Can you volunteer to help us make history? Sign up here, so you can celebrate with us on election night.
