The editorial board at the Portland Press Herald just published an editorial expressing their support for LD 319. I wrote about this bill in a post a couple of weeks ago.

The piece highlights the high cost of more effective and long-lasting contracteption, such as IUDs or implants, and cites these costs as a real barrier to equity in reproductive health care. The cost for having an IUD inserted is roughly $1,000 – that includes the cost for both the device and the insertion. Birth control implants cost up to $800 for the initial exam, which includes the device and the insertion.

It is our hope that, this year, our legislators choose to support all Maine women. We agree with the editorial board of the Portland Press Herald: “Now is the time for legislators to push back and to craft a women’s health agenda that actually puts women first.”
