The ACLU of Maine and WMPG are pleased to host Nermeen Shaikh at Space Gallery tonight at 7pm.  The event is free.

Nermeen's talk will address why it is imperative we question the use of power.  She will discuss contemporary news events (Syria, the NSA), as well as examples from other forms of storytelling (the novel, the film) to demonstrate how such questions should persistently be raised especially when they may appear unnecessary, futile or hopeless.

As a producer and co-host for Democracy Now!, Nermeen covers events and stories from the perspective of those that live with the effects of decisions made by those who are in power.  Most recently she reported on the release of Herman Wallace from over four decades of solitary confinement in Louisiana.

In April, Nermeen gave the following talk at TEDxDanubia, titled Translating Words.  You can watch the presentation here.
