On Friday, The New York Times examined the additional costs that same-sex couples accrue as a result of being denied the right to marry.  The numbers are staggering.  Read the full article here

In the worst case scenario, a couple is estimated to lose as much as $467,562 over the course of a lifetime.  At best, a couple may only (only!) lose $41,196.

How?  In the additional costs gay and lesbian couples face for insurance coverage, income and estate taxes, childbearing, Social Security and financial planning.  Items most heterosexual married couples take for granted.

Let's hope this has some impact on folks that refuse to believe gays and lesbians face real economic consequences as a result of being denied marriage or may still believe civil unions are an acceptable compromise.
