As Zach shared last week, there are over 1,700 bills proposed to Maine's 125th legislature this year, and a good number of them could affect civil liberties.

The past week, I have been particularly focused on reproductive freedom. Governor LePage attended an anti-choice rally in Augusta during the weekend before MLK Day. As far as we can tell, there are at least six bills that threaten the reproductive health and freedom of Maine women and girls. Last Thursday, the Executive Committee of the Maine Choice Coalition met to consider the work ahead. I'll be honest; I left the meeting somewhat overwhelmed. Lucky for me, I drove straight to Bangor for Mabel Wadsworth's annual Choice and Chocolate event, in celebration of the Roe v. Wade decision 38 years ago.

Being in the company of so many pro-family, pro-women, pro-choice people lifted my spirits. I'm hopeful that pro-choice Mainers will raise their voices and fight back any efforts to put restrictions on women's reproductive healthcare and freedom.  Take a moment now to email legislators and let them know you, like the majority of Mainers, are pro-choice.
