Vigil to Protect Abortion Access

On March 2, the nation’s U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the biggest abortion case in decades, Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt. The U.S. Supreme Court will determine if two provisions of a 2013 Texas law present an “undue burden” for women seeking to end a pregnancy. If the court allows all the restrictions to go into full effect, in keeping with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decision, 5.4 million women of reproductive age in Texas will be left with only ten health centers that provide safe, legal abortion.

To highlight the devastating consequences for women in states like Texas where politicians have restricted access to abortion, women’s health and reproductive rights leaders will stand in solidarity at Monument Square for the estimated six hours it will take some Texan women to travel to an appointment.
