Karla serves as the treasurer on the ACLU of Maine’s Board of Directors and is the chair of the Finance Committee. She started with the ACLU of Maine in 2019, serving on the board’s Finance Committee. Karla is dedicated to ensuring that funds are budgeted and spent responsibly to achieve the organization’s priorities. Karla is excited to volunteer her time for the ACLU of Maine because she is driven by a commitment to achieve equity for all and believes that opportunity is a positive-sum endeavor.

Karla moved to Maine full-time in January 2016 and founded KDT Business Strategies. She has been active in the entrepreneurial community as a consultant, coach, and mentor to startups and early-revenue companies.

Earlier, Karla served six years as an Air Force officer while attending night school to earn an MBA at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the US Air Force Academy. Karla then worked for over 30 years in the chemical industry in marketing and business management for a large corporation in New Jersey, and as an owner of a small chemical manufacturing company in Texas.

Karla is an advisor for Boots2Roots and a co-founder of Building Bridges Maine, the Maine affiliate of Braver Angels. In her free time, Karla can often be found on her bicycle, paddling, or hiking with her dog through Camden Hills State Park.
