I can't think of a better way to celebrate Veterans Day than by exercising our First Amendment right to petition the government for redress of grievances.  Allie Bohm of the ACLU's Washington Legislative Office posted a touching blog today remembering her Grandpa.  My grandfather is also a veteran, and I am proud of him for his service in World War II.  I'm proud of my dear friend who serves currently in Afghanistan and other friends who have served tours in Iraq.  I am not proud of military policies that discriminate against gay and lesbian service members and women.  Read Allie's blog below.

Act Now to Honor Our Troops on Veterans Day

Now, take action.  As Congress moves to pass the National Defense Authorization Act, it has an historic opportunity to end discrimination against gays and lesbians and women in the military.  Congress should repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell in the lame-duck session.  Congress should also end the ban on abortions at military facilities.  We can honor our veterans who fought to defend the Constitution and Bill of Rights by acting to uphold fundamental civil liberties protections for all members of the armed services.
