The following statement can be attributed to ACLU of Maine Executive Director Molly Curren Rowles:

"We are heartbroken to learn of another death resulting from ICE operations, this time in Maine. A man was killed this morning on a Biddeford street, and federal immigration agents were involved.

There is a lot we do not yet know. What we do already know is that extrajudicial killings are abhorrent to our legal system and make our communities less safe. At least 11 people have died during interactions with ICE – including immigrants, visa holders, and U.S. citizens.

In the hours and days to come, we will learn more about this man, his family and loved ones, and the circumstances that led to his death. We demand a transparent investigation involving state and local officials, as this rogue agency has shown itself to be dangerous, destructive, and outside the law. It must be stopped.
