Carson v. Makin - Separation of Church and State

In October 2021, we filed an amicus brief in the Supreme Court of the United States arguing that a Maine law prohibiting the use of taxpayer funding for religious instruction at religious schools was constitutional. For the first time, the Court explicitly required taxpayers to support religious education.

United States v. Fagan

In this case, the ACLU is supporting Damon Fagan, a victim of racial profiling. We argue the District Court of Maine erred when it didn’t take into account Trooper Darcy’s pattern of racial profiling when assessing the credibility of his testimony.
