Bio
Fernanda joined the ACLU of Maine in August 2026 as Engagement and Education Fellow, where she focuses on community engagement and public outreach. She works with partner organizations across Maine on campaigns and initiatives that make information about civil rights and liberties accessible to diverse communities and empower people to know and exercise their rights.
Before joining the ACLU of Maine, Fernanda served as visiting faculty for the SIT/IHP Study Abroad Program’s “Human Rights, Movement, Power and Resistance” program, guiding U.S. and international students through fieldwork research in Nepal, Jordan, and Chile. Previously, she worked as a social scientist at Chile’s National Institute of Human Rights, where she developed education and community outreach initiatives focused on promoting equality and non-discrimination among civil society organizations, state institutions, and other public audiences.
Fernanda holds a B.S. in Community Psychology from the University of Santiago, Chile, and a Ph.D. in Global Gender Studies from the University at Buffalo, which she completed as a Fulbright Scholar.
Outside of work, Fernanda enjoys hiking Maine’s mountains with her husband and learning about the remarkable biodiversity found throughout the state’s woods.
