HOW THE OFFICES ON YOUR BALLOT AFFECT PRIVACY

Maine had some of the first and strongest laws protecting people’s privacy from internet service providers and banning the government from using facial recognition surveillance.

State Legislators

Maine’s state senators and representatives have the power to keep building on this work by limiting Big Tech’s mass data harvesting and banning automatic license plate readers made by companies like Flock. Last year, a comprehensive data privacy bill to protect Maine people’s online data made it further in the legislative process than any past year. We look forward to continuing this work with a bipartisan coalition.

The Governor

Governors can help protect your privacy by signing bills that expand your ability to live free from mass surveillance, and veto bills that let the government track your every move. AI-powered cameras have only worsened the threats of government surveillance.

Attorney General

Maine is the only state where the attorney general is elected by its legislature. The attorney general can hold Big Tech accountable and help rein in dystopian state surveillance.
