In-person early voting in Maine starts Monday! Have you made a voting plan?

If you're unable to vote on Election Day, November 3, or would just prefer to vote early, good news: Anyone in Maine can vote early/absentee, and you don't need to provide an excuse to do so.

Visit our Voter Information Center for a full list of ways to vote, voting deadlines, to know your rights, and view sample ballots.

There are a couple of ways to vote before Election Day:

  • Vote in person: Go to your municipal office between Monday, October 5, and the close of business on Thursday, October 29. Tell the clerk you'd like to vote absentee. You'll receive your ballot, and can complete it and return it to the clerk during your visit.
  • Vote by mail: If you've requested an absentee ballot online or by mail, you can return your completed ballot to your municipal office, take it to your town's secure ballot drop box, or mail it back. Your ballot must be received by your municipal clerk by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3.

Whether you vote early in person or by mail, you can track your ballot online to make sure it was received.

Here are a few other deadlines to keep in mind:

If you'd like to request an absentee ballot be mailed to your home, do that now at the Secretary of State's website. We recommend returning your absentee ballot to your town clerk, taking it to your town's secure ballot drop box, or mailing it as soon as possible so it has plenty of time to arrive. You can request a ballot online here.

Not registered to vote? That's OK! If you're voting in person, you can register at your municipal office or at your polling place on Election Day. If you're registering by mail or online, your registration must be received by Tuesday, October 13. You can also register at any Bureau of Motor Vehicles office until Tuesday, October 27.

Visit our Voter Information Center for a full list of ways to vote, voting deadlines, information about your rights, sample ballots, and nonpartisan voter guides.
