Today, ACLU affiliates across the country sent out travel advisories to their members. We weren't alerting you to the weather or terrorist threat level, though. Instead, we wanted to let people know about civil liberties threats. The ACLU of MAINE action alert read:

"If you plan to travel or stay in Arizona, we want to make sure you pack a few extra items:

- Birth Certificate or,

- Passport or,

- Valid and Updated Driver's License.

And as soon as you set foot on Arizona soil, we recommend putting these documents in your pocket, wallet or purse because if you are asked for "your papers, please", these documents may help you avoid some jail time while on vacation."

These efforts are in response to Arizona's SB 1070, the "your papers, please" law set to go into effect on July 29. You can read about the ACLU's travel alert and SB 1070 issued across the country here.

We hope you'll spread the word about these travel concerns to your friends and neighbors.
