Celebrating the 2025 Scolnik Award Honoree

Scolnik Award Banner Image

We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s Scolnik Award will honor Professor Anna Welch, the founding director of Maine Law’s Refugee and Human Rights Clinic. As an educator, mentor, and advocate, Professor Welch has dedicated her career to defending the rights of immigrants and refugees in Maine and across the country. At a time when immigrant communities are facing unprecedented attacks nationwide, she continues to lead with compassion, collaboration, and courage—empowering her students and colleagues to do the same.

The Scolnik Award Reception celebrates the life and legacy of Justice Louis Scolnik, co-founder and first president of the ACLU of Maine and a lifelong advocate for fairness and equality under the law. Join us on November 12 at Portland’s Ocean Gateway to honor Professor Welch’s achievements and enjoy an evening of connection, cocktails, and community.

Joining Communities at No Kings Rallies

This weekend, Mainers will gather across the state for No Kings rallies to defend democracy and demand accountability from those in power. We’ll be joining the action in Portland and Belfast, alongside advocates and community members who share a commitment to fairness and equality for all. Peaceful protest has always been a cornerstone of social change. Come use your voice!

We encourage anyone participating in protests to take a moment to review your rights while protesting.
