Student rights, including the right to privacy, continue to be a major focus of our work here at the ACLU of MAINE (as you may have

read ). And that is true for our colleagues across the country too. This week, the ACLU of Pennsylvania settled a case that has received some national attention. It involved a student who was using her cell-phone at school. A school official took it (which is understandable), but then the official scrolled through the photos on the phone (which is really not). The school is not admitting wrongdoing, but it will be paying a hefty amount to the young woman. You can read more about it

here . Students have the right to privacy, sometimes a lawsuit like this one is the only way to remind school officials of that.
