I Stand in Solidarity with Maine Family Planning Clinics

On Tuesday, March 1 at noon in Portland, I'm standing in solidarity with Maine's family planning clinics. It's no secret that organizers aren't exactly raking in the big bucks. (But the work is so rewarding!) This is why Planned Parenthood means the world to me. Because they are able to provide services like annual exams, acccess to contraception, counseling and so much more on a sliding scale, I was able to access comprehensive sexual healthcare within the limits of my budget when I first started working as an organizer. I am fortunate to have a job though, and frankly, living in a two-income household and having been in my job for over three years, I have enough money to cover my healthcare costs. Many Maine women and men don't. That's why the amendment passed by the House last week is so dangerous. More than 28,000 Maine women, men and teens get reproductive health care each year at 45 family planning sites across the state.  Eliminating federal funding for family planning would eliminate these Mainers' access to basic sexual health care. Join me in standing in solidarity with Maine's family planning clinics next week: When:    Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 at 12pm Where:  First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church                 425 Congress St.Portland, ME
