We applaud the recent decision in federal court on a due process case brought by prisoners in solitary confinement in Illinois. The ruling describes, in detail, the extreme sensory deprivation faced by the prisoners held at the Tamms facility and the devastating impact this punishment has on their mental health. He also affirms that such punishment requires due process - and we agree!

U.S. District Court Judge G. Patrick Murphy wrote, about his decision, "Tamms imposes dramatic limitations on human contact, so much so as to inflict lasting psychological damage and emotional harm on inmates confined there for long periods. ..."
