Join Representative Lydia Crafts and advocates on January 9th, 2024, at 7 PM for a the launch of the grassroots campaign to #SaveLives & #PassLD1975, which is aimed at addressing a pressing issue in our communities: the struggle of Mainers using substances to access the care they desperately need. This event will prepare advocates to testify at the public hearing on January 17th at 10AM in the Health and Human Services Committee.
Recent research indicates that around 17,000 Mainers actively seek treatment for substance use disorders but face insurmountable barriers. Only one 24/7 receiving center exists statewide, and the Maine Recovery Council is grappling with a financial shortfall hindering its efforts. Yes the Legislature currently spends $111 million annually on arrests, prosecutions, defense and incarceration.
It's time to reduce the harm and disruption this causes and give Mainers the care they deserve in the communities they live in. Join us to learn more about how you can get involved!
