Did you know that citizens who vote are more likely to give to charity, volunteer, attend school board meetings, serve on juries, be interested in politics, and cooperate with fellow citizens on community affairs? Increased voter participation means a truer democracy and may even have positive ripple effects. While the ACLU works to protect voting rights across the country, there is a concerted effort by some to roll back voting rights.
Currently, the Commission to Investigate Election Practices in Maine is in the process of holding public hearings on voting rights.
