As members of Congress prepare to meet for the lame-duck session, we hope that Paycheck Fairness is on their minds. It’s been nearly 50 years since the Equal Pay Act passed, and yet women still earn only 77 cents to the dollar that men earn. Wage disparities are even worse for women of color. African American women only earned approximately 61 cents and Latinas only 52 cents for each dollar earned by a white male. Chronic wage discrimination can deprive a woman of between $700,000 and $2 million over her career.
Please call Senators Collins and Snowe and ask them to support the Paycheck Fairness Act. The House has already passed the bill, so now it’s up to the Senate to secure equal pay for women.
