As if going through airport security wasn't unpleasant (and ineffectual) enough, the options at a growing number of U.S. airports are now to undergo a scan that generates a nude image (virtual strip search) or face an aggressive groping of breast and groin areas by a Transportation Security Administration screener. In a clear effort to make sure that people choose to undergo a full body scan, the TSA has adopted the much more invasive pat-down policy. The new guidelines bring the implied threat that pat-downs will be as uncomfortable and embarrassing as possible.
