Attorney General Holder accepted an award today for pro bono service, and his remarks are worth a look. In particular, I liked this quote, that he heard as a law student from the President of the American Bar Association: ""If you don't intend to work to improve the quality of justice, then I hope that you flunk your exams." I think I'm going to start saying that to law students (and maybe all students).
Attorney General Holder also discussed his new Access to Justice Initiative, dedicated to addressing the crisis in our nation's indigent defense system. Next week, Corey Stoughton of the NYCLU will argue a major "right to counsel" case in New York's highest court. This is a problem that is recieving much-needed attention.
