Politicians are attacking students' and teachers' rights throughout the country, including here in Maine – but as the Supreme Court ruled in 1969, students do not "shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.”

The Constitution applies everywhere, including at school, and inclusive policies create better learning environments for all students. But students, parents, and educators are returning to school against a backdrop of political and legal upheaval.
