It’s time to usher in 2014, and that means a look back at some of our favorite moments of 2013. In no particular order, here are our top civil liberties moments from around the state:

Voters in Maine's largest city approved sensible marijuana reform...

…and PTSD was added to Maine's medical marijuana treatment list.

We defeated three dangerous anti-choice bills

…as well as a bill to strip some people in prison of their Constitutional right to cast a ballot.

The Biddeford public school system promised to improve its vetting process for guest speakers after we reminded them that prostelytizing has no place in public schools…

…and the city of Portland promised not to enforce an unconstitutionally-broad ban on being in all medians for any reason, pending the outcome of our lawsuit.

The Maine Legislature passed a law requiring law enforcement to get a warrant before collecting your cell phone records and content…

…AND overrode a governor’s veto, making Maine the second state to require warrants for location tracking.

We celebrated the first anniversary of marriage equality in Maine…

…and welcomed the defeat of DOMA in a case brought by Edie Windsor and the ACLU.

2013 was a heck of a year. Now, with your support, we'll continue fighting to protect civil liberties for all Mainers in 2014. Happy new year!
