Hopefully, you have seen the Yes on One campaign ad featuring Rep. Stacey Fitts, and hopefully (if you are regular reader of this blog) you have seen the post from my colleague Jill discussing the importance of courage in our political system. Rep. Fitts is a proud lifelong Republican, and he is a Yes on One supporter. Rep. Fitts believes that supporting the freedom to marry for all loving committed couples in Maine makes sense for people who believe in liberty and in limited government.

Stacey Fitts is not alone, and today more Republicans from across the state stood up to lend their voice and their stature to the Yes on One campaign. They join Democrats, Greens, Independents, Libertarians, and Mainers from every point on the political spectrum in supporting the freedom to marry, because marriage equality is not a partisan issue. No matter our political philosophy or party affiliation, we all know gay and lesbian couples who take care of each other and their families and who have made a lifetime commitment to love and care for one another. They should be allowed to marry, and if Mainers vote Yes on One on November 6, that will finally be possible.
