LD 935 would ensure no Mainer with insurance has to pay out-of-pocket for abortion care.

This bill would ensure no Mainer with insurance has to pay out-of-pocket for abortion care. Even though Maine law requires private insurance coverage of abortion as a part of comprehensive pregnancy care, many health insurance plans require patients pay out of pocket for abortion care until they meet deductibles and/or pay co-insurance. This cost sharing can cause delays in care as people struggle to afford out-of-pocket costs, pushing pregnant people later into their pregnancies while they work to afford the medical care they need.

Few people have the savings to afford a medical emergency and for those in need of access to abortion care, those costs can mean a month’s rent, a car payment or push them closer to poverty. This bill requires insurance companies to cover abortion care without cost sharing.
