LD 494 would impose a state version of the federal Hyde Amendment by prohibiting MaineCare from covering abortion.

LD 494 would revoke MaineCare funding for patients seeking abortions. This legislation would still allow coverage for patients who decide to continue a pregnancy, but would withhold coverage for those who seek abortion, effectively creating state-backed coercion and interference in patients’ most personal decisions about their bodies.
