Name: Fiona Akilo Stawarz
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Year of Participation: Fall & Summer 2020

What was the most valuable thing you learned or accomplished in the program?
As an ACLU of Maine intern, I learned to trust myself, my instincts, and my abilities. Having opportunities to collaborate on projects with college students and staff allowed me to gain confidence in conducting research, speaking up and sharing my input.

What do you do outside of your work at the ACLU?
I am a senior in high school, so recently my time outside of the ACLU has been consumed by applying to colleges and scholarships. I am also a part of my school's Culture Club, National Honors Society, and I am one of the student representatives on my district’s school board.

What are your plans for the future?
Next year, I would like to attend college and study government along with economics and African-American studies. After getting my undergraduate degree, I would like to get my law degree and pursue a career in legal and advocacy work.
