TONIGHT! Join us for a screening of The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz at SPACE Gallery in Portland. For tickets and more info, visit the SPACE website.

On Wednesday, we’ll be sponsoring a special screening in Portland of “The Internet’s Own Boy,” the story of programming prodigy and information activist Aaron Swartz. Before taking his own life at the age of 26, Aaron was a technological whiz kid with his fingerprints all over the Internet. But in his final years his political activism and aggressive approach to information access ensnared him in a legal battle with the government that threatened to put him in prison for decades.

We’re excited to present this film not only because it tells Aaron’s compelling personal story, but also because it touches on many new areas of law that the ACLU has been dealing with over the past few years. From free speech on the Internet to net neutrality to the overall relationship between new technology and civil liberties, Aaron’s story raises tough questions for Internet activists and laymen alike.

You can watch the trailer for “The Internet’s Own Boy” here. Then join us for the screening at 7:30pm on July 2 at SPACE Gallery in Portland. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

The screening will be followed by a live video question-and-answer session with the filmmaker, Brian Knappenberger. This is a great opportunity to go even deeper into Aaron’s story and the underlying civil liberties issues.

We hope you’ll join us on Wednesday for this special event, and if you have any questions feel free to call us at 774-5444 for more information.
