As early as this week, the U.S. Senate may vote on the USA Freedom Act, a bi-partisan bill that would significantly scale back the federal government’s ability to illegally spy.

As we know from disclosures made by Edward Snowden, the National Security Agency (NSA) has been secretly spying on Americans for over a decade, conducting widespread surveillance, misleading Congress, and trampling on your basic civil liberties as protected by the Constitution.

Tell Maine's Senators today: it’s time for the government to stop spying on innocent Americans.

This is not a Democrat or Republican issue. There is broad consensus that mass surveillance is not only wasteful but also ineffective. No one is arguing that the government can’t use intelligence to pursue serious threats or to fight terrorism, but collecting the personal records of every American is not the right approach, nor is it the constitutional one.

The votes of Maine’s senators, Susan Collins and Angus King, are crucial if this bill is to move forward.

Please follow this link and tell Senator King and Senator Collins that they should vote for the USA Freedom Act — without allowing any amendments that would weaken its protections — in order to finally rein in the NSA.
