The ACLU of Maine receives hundreds of requests for assistance each year, but because of limited resources only a small percentage actually become ACLU of MAINE cases. We are unable to take many cases, even those concerning real injustices. If your complaint is not pursued by our office, it does not mean it is without merit. | continue reading
Legal Program
The Maine Civil Liberties Union undertakes litigation when that is the best way to advance civil rights or civil liberties.
Our litigation program focuses on cases that have an impact on people's rights by setting a legal precedent or affecting the policies and actions of public officials. Depending on the case, we may provide direct legal representation to people or file amicus curiae (friend-of-the-court) briefs addressing civil liberties issues in cases brought by others. | continue reading
