Cave of Forgotten Dreams

The best thing I've seen on Netflix lately is Werner Herzog's "Cave of Forgotten Dreams"--a documentary about the Chauvet cave paintings in France, which are the earliest known examples of representational art in the world, created 30,000 years ago.  The worst thing I've seen is a 20-way tie among all the Barney the Dinosaur videos my daughter watches while I am getting her breakfast.

My Religious Freedom and Yours

Our Constitution protects religion in two broad ways: it guarantees an individual the right to practice his or her religion, and it also prohibits the government from showing a preference for a particular religion or for religion over non-religion.  It is important to remember that both of these protections are part of our constitutional religious liberty, and neither is more important than the other.

Another Reason to Vote Yes on One

Do you really need another reason to vote Yes on Question One to protect voting here in Maine?  It should be enough that voting Yes on 1 restore same-day voter registration, making it easier for people with busy lives or multiple jobs to exercise their constitutional right to vote.  It should be enough that voting Yes on 1 supports Maine's long tradition of making sure that all citizens get to cast a ballot. | continue reading
