As I’m sure you’ve heard, the Secretary of State’s office gave us the “green light” earlier this week and we are ready to hit the streets with petitions in hand. Over the next month thousands of Mainers will be heading out to fairs, malls, festivals, and neighborhoods to gather the needed signatures to put this question on the ballot: “Do you want to reject the section of Chapter 399 of the Public Laws of 2011 that requires new voters to register to vote at least two business days prior to an election?”
Yes, we do want to reject it! We don’t believe that there should be any barriers to voting. Elections matter and every vote counts. Please join the Maine Civil Liberties Union, our many coalition partners, and thousands of volunteers across the state as we take the first step to fight back against this attempt to strip voting rights from the people of Maine.
This weekend there will be launch events in at least 9 counties. I hope you can make it to one. This is your best chance to join this effort and make a difference in protecting our democracy and our rights. Please be in touch with your County Organizer with questions, or just show up to your County's launch!
