The ACLU of Maine's work to protect voting rights is, for me, the highlight of 2012.

We attended every hearing of the Commission on Elections to urge them to reject any unreasonable restrictions on voting, we positioned monitors at polling stations across the state to prevent unfounded challenges to new voters and we continue to monitor any attempt at harassing or intimidating voters.

Across the country, voting rights continue to come under fierce attack and it's going to be a long fight.  These include voter ID requirements, restrictions on early voting, elimination of Election Day registration, and restrictions on voter registration drives.  I'm thankful we have the ACLU leading and coordinating the fight to defend against these voter suppression measures everywhere they occur.

Our work has made a difference in Maine.  And in 2013, we won't just be defending voting rights, we'll be expanding them.
